Our story

We'd rather sell less tea, better.

Kanso started at a kitchen table in Bristol, with one question: how much of the price of a cup of tea ever reaches the person who grew it? The answer was depressing. So we built a tea company the other way round.

Fair, by default

Where your £15 goes

Every penny of a caddy of Sencha Bloom, split by who it pays. Point at a slice (or tap it) to see what it covers.

The farm 36%

Paid to the family who grew and picked it, at twice the Fairtrade minimum, before the tea leaves their gate.

Nothing wasted

Every layer has somewhere to go

No plastic, no foil, no "widely recyclable" small print. Here's what arrives, and what to do with it afterwards.

  1. The caddy

Recycled card, printed with vegetable inks

Paper recycling, or keep it for your spices

  2. The liner

Glassine paper that keeps the light and damp out

    Paper recycling

  3. Tea bags

    Plant-based mesh, no plastic sealant

Your food caddy or compost heap

  4. The mailer

Corrugated card with a paper tape seal

Flatten it and recycle it, or send us a crate back

The people

Four of us, and a lot of kettles

Turn a card over for a small confession.
